American
Heart Association Start! Central Ohio Heart Walk
My name
is Mindy Smith and I asking for your support. On August
22nd, I will be taking part in the American Heart Association
Start! Central Ohio Heart Walk. Last year was my first
year participating in this fundraiser and was one of
the top walkers. I am again participating and have set
the bar high at $2500.00.
As many
of you know, I suffered a stroke in March of 2002. I
was a healthy 23-year-old working on my Masters Degree.
This stroke came on suddenly with virtually no warning
other than a severe headache earlier in the day I was
rushed to a local hospital where they were able to administer
the clot-busting medicine TPA just in time to prevent
further damage to my heart and brain. I was then taken
to The Ohio State University Medical Center. The doctors,
nurses and therapists were wonderful.
Within
a week of the stroke I had some ambulatory skills back,
my speech had returned and I knew what I needed to do
to get back to my former self. Through hard work and
wonderful medical intervention, I am able to lead a
normal life. This includes having my daughter, Addie,
which would not have been possible without the medical
care I received.
My stroke
was preventable if the undiagnosed hole in my heart
had been picked up in previous doctor appointments.
I had the hole repaired with a titanium patch in 2006
and have been able to do everything I want with minimal
restrictions. I have congenital heart disease and some
residual neurological effects at the age of 30 and will
always have to be on some type of blood thinner. I have
regular trans-esophageal heart echoes and heart catheterization
as preventative care.
My wish
is that no one would have to go through everything that
I have. While I am a success story, I do have residual
effects and it will always be something I have to deal
with on a daily basis.
I know
that this is a tough economic time for many people,
please know that every little bit is a huge help. The
pledges that I raise for this walk will be able to help
the American Heart Association with their research and
outreach programs in promoting a healthy lifestyle and
ending heart disease and stroke.
To help my cause you can donate in three ways:
1. Send
a check made payable to Mindy Smith, 307 Oak Lane, Chillicothe
Ohio 45601
2. Go to https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=294673&supId=225568372
3. Give it to me directly
Thank
you in advance! - Mindy |

Pay
To Participate...
The
Chillicothe Board of Education has enacted a “Pay to
Participate” policy for athletics in the Chillicothe
City Schools beginning with the 2004-05 school year.
While it is regrettable to have to institute such a policy,
the financial situation in the school district makes it necessary
to help defray the costs of the athletic programs. Click
